Quantum Kitteh

His heart was beating. His ghost disagreed.

Written in Crash BASIC for the 2026 Crashtober Game Jam, themed around Schrödinger's Cat.

Quark was an ordinary laboratory cat with a fondness for warm particle accelerators and unfinished snacks. Then a static surge on the accelerator left him in an unusual condition: both dead and alive.

Now the house feels different. The scientists who once doted on him seem dangerous, and the restless spirits of his half-eaten meals want revenge.

Quark knows very little about exorcisms. Finding the leftovers seems like a good place to start.

A ghost story with unfinished business

Explore a storm-battered house in this supernatural platforming adventure. Build up static charge, switch between living and ghost forms, and uncover the remains of Quark’s unfortunate snacks.

Stay out of sight, find shelter in dark recesses and cardboard boxes, and use a well-placed paw to send breakable objects flying. When you’ve gathered what remains, face the spirits themselves.

Features

  • One cat, two states of existence. Switch between living and ghost forms to uncover different paths and secrets.
  • A house full of trouble. Navigate furniture, evade scientists, and contend with supernatural pests.
  • Three vengeful spirits. Settle unfinished business with Bone Mouse, Half-Eaten Fish, and Wayward Moth.
  • Feline problem-solving. Hide in boxes. Knock things over. Hope that counts as an exorcism.
  • Keyboard, controller, and touch controls.

Pause menu: Use Up / Down or W / S on keyboard, or the controller D-pad, to select Resume or Quit. Confirm with Enter / Space / X on keyboard or A / X on controller. Press P or Start again to resume. On mobile, tap the on-screen pause button to open the menu. Menu choices also accept clicks and taps.

Touch controls: Drag the on-screen directional pad to move. Use the jump, run, paw, and switch-form buttons for their matching actions. Tap the pause button to open the menu, and the jump button to continue the title/story or restart after Game Over.

Release and press again for another swipe. Release jump early for a shorter hop. To drop through a one-way platform on touch, hold the down direction and tap jump. Solid floors cannot be dropped through.

Walk right to climb the main staircase and left to descend; jumping between individual steps is optional.

Switching between living and ghost forms

  1. Build up static. Run back and forth across a carpet until the charge bar is full. Hold Shift on keyboard or B / left shoulder on a controller while moving.
  2. Get inside a cardboard box. Quark must be fully inside to switch forms.
  3. Make the switch. Press Down on keyboard, or D-pad Down / Y on a controller. On touch devices, use the run and switch-form buttons for the same steps.

Switching uses up your charge. To change back, charge up on a carpet again and find a box. You can build static in either form.

Cheats and boss shortcuts

Want to try the boss fights without collecting their remains first? These shortcuts use the keyboard:

KeyEffect
1Enter the Bone Mouse fight.
2Enter the Half-Eaten Fish fight.
3Enter the Wayward Moth fight.
5Instantly defeat the active boss and play its victory sequence.
RLeave a boss fight, or reset Quark to the starting point while exploring the house.

Use 1–3 while in the house, after the intro. Shortcut fights do not advance the house quests. Winning against Wayward Moth through its shortcut still plays the ending.

Curiosity may have killed the cat. The results remain inconclusive.
